Daytime and the reason you should totally wake up early (or not)

For some reason everyone keeps telling me that I should wake up early, and for the most part I don't see any actual reason for it.

Let’s take a look at the main reasons.

**When you wake up early your get a head start on everything and there are less distractions to stop you from doing what you need to do. **

Well yes, distractions are the main reason that anyone doesn’t do a thing.  The thing that you need to do is going to fight with all of the other things that you have to eventually do.  But the same can be said for those of us who are self proclaimed night owls.  We are awake when the rest of the world sleeps, we don’t shun the sun but we use it as our natural “It’s your time to go to bed” notification.

So let’s call this reason a draw, I don’t have to wake up when everyone is sleeping, if I’m already awake before you even groggily hitting the buzzer to your alarm.

**You earn better grades if you wake up early**

According to a 2008 Texas University study, you get better grades if you a self proclaimed morning person. There was a full 1 point difference (3.5 vs 2.5).

Look grades are important but being a collage student myself I can tell you that when all my classes in the morning you can damn well know that I’m going to be at odds with my naturally occurring sleep cycle.  But more important than that it’s my dedication to the class and my school work that will lead my grades to rise and fall.  But statistically I can agree that those who do their work at night are going to be at a disadvantage here.

**Point Early Risers**

**Early Risers are more Proactive**

Harvard biologist Christoph Randler “discovered” that early risers are more proactive and more likely to agree with positive statements like “I spend time identifying long-range goals for myself” and “I feel in charge of making things happen”.

1st it’s hard to discover something that is a byproduct of an individuals own ideology.  2nd we night owls have our own studies that can prove our “Superior” stance (neither is superior, just different) being proactive and confidant in oneself are not mutually exclusive.  Early risers are going to get an early start in the morning yes. We night owls are not going to stand around doing nothing until it’s night to start working.  No we will get to it when we need to, and if we believe it to be a major issue that you can damn well believe that I will do it.

Just because you wake up 4 hours earlier than I do doesn’t mean that you own the Proactive stance,  I will simple do it the night before.

**Early risers are more likely anticipate problems**

I don’t think the sun give you magical thinking powers if you soak in the rays before 11 a.m so this one confuses my night owl brain.

Problems always arise, for the ones that are foreseeable it’s the gathering of knowledge and knowing how use what you know in a functioning way to help deter problems.  You should always take time out to look over your work, but if your work has you go in at 9 a.m. and you continue to stay up late than yes you won’t be in the right mind to look over your work.  Though if you go to work at 9 p.m. than early risers are going to have the same issues.

**This study says so**

For every one you have I can find one that says my preference is the better.  And that what this all leads to, reference.  Each study has statements that claim “Early risers are more enjoyable, work better, taste like cherries”, or “Night owls are smarter, wealthier, get it on more often than you do”.

Being productive is not a effect of when you sleep, it is an effect of the actions you take while you are actually awake.  If you wake up at 7 a.m. but spend 3 hours watching Netflix than your not gaining anything from the day.

So carpe diem, at which ever time you decide to roll out of bed.
